Medical Minute: Autism

We’ve all seen the touching photos of Halle Berry’s 3-year-old daughter Nahla caressing Halle’s face or exploring the handsome features of her father, Gabe Aubry. We all assumed that Nahla was just a very affectionate little girl.
But as a loyal reader pointed out in an email to Sandrarose.com earlier this week, Nahla might be an autistic or special needs child who communicates nonverbally with her hands.
The list of famous celebrities with autistic children includes Toni Braxton, Holly Robinson Peete, Sylvester Stalone, John Travolta, Jenny McCarthy, Dan Marino, Dawn Neufeld (‘Football Wives‘), and more.
Signs of autism begin in babies before they are 12 months old. Most children are diagnosed with autism by age 2 or 3. That’s the age when parents become aware that their toddlers’ communications skills aren’t keeping pace with other toddlers their age.
Autism is a disorder of the nerves in the brain that interferes with the signals sent from the brain to other parts of the body. The disorder is marked by poor communication skills and lack of social interaction. Doctors aren’t sure what causes autism.
Is Halle Berry’s daughter Nahla a special needs child?
Earlier this week, I received an email from a loyal reader who asked to remain anonymous. According to the email author, Nahla may be autistic. At this moment, Nahla’s dad, former underwear model Gabrielle Aubry is behind closed doors in a special hearing in Dependency Court “because authorities are concerned about his ability to safely care for his child,” according to celebrity gossip website TMZ.com.
TMZ reports that “the DCFS investigation goes beyond an incident in which Gabriel allegedly pushed the nanny who was holding 3-year-old Nahla.”
It seems the scope of the problem may be that Aubry gets angry and loses his patience with his daughter who requires special care and attention.
None of this has been confirmed. But it is interesting that CPS has once again recommended that another adult be present whenever Nahla is in Aubry’s custody.
Read the email after the break and draw your own conclusions. The email has not been edited.
CPS Recommends Gabe Have Monitored Visitations With Nahla

The Los Angeles County of Department of Children and Family Services is recommending that Halle Berry’s ex-boyfriend, Gabriel Aubry, have another adult present when has custody of his daughter, Nahla, Radar Online reports exclusively.
The decision comes two weeks after Berry’s former nanny filed a police report alleging that Aubry assaulted her while she was holding Nahla.
“Social workers have recommended that Halle maintain primary custody of Nahla,” a source close to the situation tells RadarOnline.com. “Nahla spends most of her time with her mother. DCFS has also made a new recommendation that Gabriel not be alone with Nahla.
“Case workers are recommending that a nanny be present with Gabriel during his visitation times. Halle’s nanny had been with Nahla when Gabriel had his custodial time from noon until she went to sleep. However, after the alleged incident between the nanny and Gabe, that hasn’t been in place, and he has been alone with Nahla.
“It will be up to the judge to implement the recommendations. Gabriel is fighting having another person with him, he feels that Halle is trying to make his time with their daughter as uncomfortable as possible,” the insider says.
The report also recommends Berry and Aubry attend child parenting classes together.

Halle Berry found a new nanny for 3-year-old Nahla Aubry, and this one already looks shook. Nahla’s daddy, Gabrielle Aubry, has been accused of racism after the last nanny quit and filed a police report when he shoved her into a door while she was holding Nahla.

Celebs Out & About: Halle Berry, Gabe Aubry, Nicole Murphy, Jennifer Lopez
Eddie Murphy’s ex-wife, Nicole Murphy, was spotted out and about today in Beverly Hills. Even with breast implants, the 43-year-old mother of 5 puts other 40-year-old broads, like Basketball Wives’ Evelyn Lozada, to shame. The beauty wore a black sportsbra and spandex pants during her outing. And, yes, that’s a toy phone she’s holding.
Former underwear model Gabriel Aubry was seen comforting his daughter Nahla who was frightened by the paparazzi screaming at her daddy as they exited her private school in Beverly Hills yesterday. Aubry, 35, is awaiting the judges decision in his current custody case with ex Halle Berry over their 3-year-old daughter. The judge will decide whether Gabriel should be barred from seeing Nahla while police investigate him for child endangerment.

Halle’s Nanny Loses Restraining Order Request Against Aubry

Apparently Halle Berry’s nanny doesn’t have good karma because a judge today tossed out her restraining order petition against Gabriel Aubry.
As you know, Alliance Kamdem, 29, took out a police report last week accusing Aubry, 35, of “ongoing” verbal and physical abuse towards her. Kamdem claims Aubry hurled racial epithets at her and shoved her into a door while she was holding Nahla last Wednesday.
In her petition, Kamdem cited another alleged incident in June in which she claims Gabriel violently pushed her out a door.
According to celebrity gossip website, TMZ.com, Kamdem “also said Gabriel didn’t like her from the moment she began her duties as a nanny last June. She claims Gabriel said, “You are a spy,” and “Nahla doesn’t like you, she doesn’t want you here.”
She said that while she was performing her nanny duties on the set of Halle’s movie in Spain, Aubry “would walk over and violently grab/take Nahla away from me.”
But the judge wasn’t convinced. He called Kamdem’s accusations “insufficient and speculative” — and he advised her to take the matter up in family court. The judge rejected her claims probably because what Kamdem was saying didn’t make sense without Aubry’s side of the story.
Kamdem has since quit her position as Halle’s nanny.
