Calm down people, Obama will be fine

It’s looking more and more like Barack Obama will be the first ever ibiracial president of the United States. So why are black people everywhere trying to put the mojo on him? Poll a group of black people and 90% of them will say that Obama is as good as toast if he wins. The man hasn’t even taken office yet and already we’re planning his funeral.

What I don’t understand is why would the same people who vote to put him in office want to see him dead? Can we all get a grip? This is not 1968, it’s 2008. Rednecks have more things to worry about than Barack Obama in the white house. What would be the point of shooting Obama after he takes office? Won’t he still be the first ever biracial president of the United States even after he’s dead?

Even rednecks can appreciate the fact that at least Hillary Clinton won’t be the next president. Maybe a little color in the oval office is what this country needs to get it back on track after the Bush gravy train leaves the station.

Umm, I normally don’t challenge anything posted by you Sandra, because this is your site. But I really think this post is unnecessary and ignorant. I don’t recall reading anywhere that people are speculating that he will be assasinated. Either way, why would you even acknowledge that kind of ignorance. It’s obvious that your site/blog is taken serious in the industry/media unlike other bloggers. I just don’t understand why you would feed into this. I can’t quite put into words exactly what I’m wanting to express, but I’m really disappointed in this post.

I hope that anyone that is even considering making any such act of atrocity (murdering Barack) that there will be severe consequences if he is harmed in anyway IF he does become president. That I can assure anyone of. Without going into details, I can say that their are already groups and plans in place that will be executed promptly and precisely in the event that this happens.

Even though we’re in 2008 racism is still alive and well. I pray for Barack’s protection now and especially if he’s elected. Remember John Brown????? The rednecks have a way of making things happen and even being able to get our own kind to assist in the dirt. So it’s understandable if people are worried. With all they have to worry about, trust that they still fine time to cause us worries as well.
Barack will certainly need God by his side.

That was ignorant. And if you had any knowledge of the political process, winning some democratic caucuses does not mean you win the presidency. It doesn’t even mean you win the democratic nomination. EVERYONE gets to vote for the president, including republicans/independents.
But good to see Black man doing his thing!! I still am not convinced he is the most capable option for the presidency, and I’m still unclear on many of his views, but maybe he has time to convince me. But I won’t vote for him just because he’s Black. I’ll vote for who I feel has the answer to those issues I feel are most important.

Wow, where did that come from? I haven’t heard of the poll you site, nor have I heard a bunch of people saying he is going to die if elected. And why do you insist on calling him interracial? Most black Americans are interracial. Barack is black. He identifies himself as black. IF he wins, and that is a big fat if, he will be the first black president. No one will be referring to him as the first interracial president. He’s no Tiger Woods.

I think he’ll have some trouble with death threats if he’s elected. I don’t however, think he’s going to win the Presidency if he’s elected as the Democratic Nominee. I think it’s a set up just like putting Kerry against Bush. Dumb against Dumber. The country elected the dumb ass that they at least knew. If they put Obama against any republican the republicans are going to win the White House again. While it’s wonderful and great that a black man is doing his thing. I really don’t think that alot of racial makeups in the US are ready to see a Black Man run our country. White, Mexican, Asian, Middle Eastern. There are more cultures that are racist against blacks besides Rednecks.

I agree. Unfortunately, the VAST majority of the US population are White people that identify themselves as conservative, and illegal immigrants (who can’t vote anyway). It’s sad, but people are going to vote for those that are most like themselves. This isn’t necessarily racist, but people are more comfortable with people that are like they are. We make up ONLY 11% of the US population and have the lowest voter turnout of any group. Obama is a set-up and will give the Republican candidate a lock on the election. However, the fact that he has accomplished so much is a good thing that should be applauded.

Many of people feel better with Hillary because she is married to an ex president, It is quite comforting because she knows how it works and she has plans.
…….In my opinion, if Obama was darker I don’t think people would be feeling him running for president both black and white people. Visuals are everything in this society, I think right now its okay because he is lighter and his mom is white, but what if he was dark skinned? America considers darker black men to be aggressive, strong and a threat. In american history slaves were darker, rough, worked in the field and looked down upon… where as the lighter black men were house n*****as and had other jobs. I think Obama is capable of being the “yes sir” guy where as Hillary is the “no” lady.

    Its Nation Time.

I don’t get what Malcolm X’s assassination has to do with Barack’s complexion. Apathy didn’t get Malik killed, its was CHANGE, as Barack likes to talk about all the time. So that is a valid concern, in my opinion. I don’t think anyone is waiting for him to die or wants him to, but it does go down.

Nothing has changed but the year! The female announcer on the Golf Channel just made a comment about young golfers should lynch Tiger Woods, and she wasn’t no redneck.

    To be honest,

I initially had concerns about voting for Barack, b/c I do think that someone will try to do something to him if he becomes President. If this happens, America will see an uprising the world has never seen, Watts and the Riots of Mr. King’s assassination included…..this country is not ready for something like that! And I think our people(especially young people) are more violent now than in the Civil Rights era….

Personally, I don’t think that America is really ready for a Black (if he got a drop of African American blood running thru his body, he’s black to me) president…I bet somebody on the Republican side is digging all over the place, looking for dirt….LOL

I changed my view when I saw Barack on TV at a Iowa rally; in essence he said that we (as a nation) cannot be scared or fearful, we have to stand up for change, or we will be scared forever….we cannot live our lives in fear…..
I felt like he spoke directly to me, and I listened.

Soon we will have our chance to be part of history…..to place our votes for the first black President(or the first woman)…I am not scared anymore…. it is time for a change.

Barack identifies as black, but his mother is white and his father is black. no amount of screaming he’s BLACK changes that fact. If you and the rest of society choose to perpetuate the one drop rule that’s your business.

people look at blacks all the time and “see” certain things (stereotypes like we are less educated, criminal, lacking in morals). if we only saw ourselves as others see us, we would be in a world of hurt.

that’s why i always find it curious when black people use the “society sees you as black so you are black argument”. who cares how society sees an individual?

If someone like alicia keys chose to say she is biracial or black, why do i care? that is her business. granted there are consequences for the choice. if she says she is biracial, blacks and whites will give her crap for it. so it’s easier to just say, i am black, because black people seem to love it when biracial people scream they are black (it’s worked well for mariah carey).

The fact is biracial people have a choice. They can choose to identify with one of their parts or both of their parts. Barack calls himself a black man. I look at him and see a black man. White folks look at him and see a black man. I don’t care about the one drop rule nor do I give a damn about the skin of a black person. Black is black. I think it makes it easier for white people to consider him a candidate when they think of him as being half and half. He’s a safer bet than a darker skinned black man. The same reason the lighter colored blacks were allowed in the house and the darker ones weren’t. So it doesn’t matter if it’s 1968 or 1868 or 2008 things are still the same.

Actually, several of the Black “Firsts” are half white. Especially in politics several of the first Black politicians were so light they did in fact look like your regular white person. Back then light skinned people were a whole lot lighter (keep in mind the one drop rule.) I think the house negro comments are interesting. But one thing no one is acknowleding is that most house negros were the children of the master, so yes they were biracial and if anyone else in the house hit them up they would continue to generate lighter and lighter offspring. As far as white people preferring light over dark I agree, especially if that person is half white. Even in the Black community light-skinned people are presummed to be punks. But class is almost always an issue. If you are a middle class dark-skinned person you may be more respected than a light-skinned person who is less well off. Basically, when white people look at you do they see ‘hood’.
